Satin Draped Vases
A series of thrown vases sculpted to appear as if they are covered in or made of satin cloth. They were thrown and sculpted from an American porcelain and glazed with a flat white glaze to enhance their cloth like appearance. These pieces gently reflect light over their subtle curves. The shadows are further enhanced by the lack of sharp reflection. They are intended to provide a sense of illusion and soft elegance to a traditionally hard and inflexible material.

Satin Draped Vases [1 of 3], 2023
This piece is the first in the Satin Draped Vases series. It features a tall, bottlenecked vase that appears to be floating on the flowing fabric that drapes around it’s shape. The piece creates the illusion of being suspended in mid-air.

Satin Draped Vases [2of 3], 2023
This form was inspired by a wine bottle. It has downwards draped fabric pleats that appears as if the piece is coated with a satin cloth. The vertical pleats enunciate the slender vase’s form.

Satin Draped Vases [3 of 3], 2023
This round piece is intended to appear as if it is a round object, wrapped in cloth that is pulled in tension. The piece is frozen in motion as an invisible hand pulls the fabric tight on the form.
